Surveys  were carried out in the year 1986 in 7  districts  i.e., Srikakulam, Vizianagaram Visakhapatnam, East Godavari,  Adilabad, Warangal,  Khammam  and  declared as endemic  for  Goitre  except Vizianagaram  District.  The Goitre rate is varied from  9.2%  to 64.4%. The  Central  Survey  team from  Directorate  General  of  Health Services,  New Delhi has surveyed Nellore and  Krishna  Districts during  1998-99  and declared as endemic for Goitre.  The  Goitre rate is 16.6% for Nellore and 15.5% for Krishna Districts.

The  recent surveys of Nellore and Krishna revealed that in  both districts the  Goitre prevalence is more in the age group of  10-14  years.  Further regarding sex wise  distribution  the  Goitre prevalence  is  more  in male children than  female  children  in Nellore  district, and in Krishna district the Goitre  prevalence is more in female children than male children.
